I build communities, mostly on Discord and Telegram, with the occasional side quest into a few other places. Somewhere along the way I started building my own tools for it: moderation, verification, the things that make running communities with over 740,000 members combined less painful. Spam, raids, bad actors, that sort of thing.
I’ve been using AI for over three years now to make a lot of that work better and faster, which turned into its own rabbit hole. When I’m not putting out fires or building bots to put them out while I sleep, I’m probably automating something that was perfectly fine being done manually.

CAPTCHA verification for Discord
Raids arrive fast and all at once. Protator stops them at the door: new members solve an image CAPTCHA before they get in, with several difficulty levels, and an audio CAPTCHA for anyone who can’t use the image one. Each CAPTCHA is generated in under 120 ms, and setup takes about two minutes with /help.

Conversational verification for Discord
Instead of a button that says “I agree”, new members have a short conversation with an AI that checks they actually understand the server’s rules, in several languages, and then gets the right roles assigned automatically. Servers tune the process to fit, and every verification shows up in the logs.
